With the vast array of snowboarding clothes available it can be hard to choose the right gear for you. The most important thing's to keep in mind are is it water proof and will it keep me warm. Obviously if you're a novice you'll also want to purchase some wrist guards and kneepads.

The general rule when dressing for winter weather is to dress in layers and snowboarding is no exception. Thin layers which you can easily remove if need be are best. You want to start with a base layer. The main function of which is to keep you dry and maintain body temperature. To start get some polypropylene long undies. These are great as they are soft against your skin, wick away moisture and dry quickly. A thin turtle neck, a sweater and a vest complete this layer.

Next up is the insulating layer. Which as the name suggests is all about keeping you warm. Ideally you want a pair of insulated and water proof pants. But if you can't find insulated wearing an extra pair of pants or tights beneath them will help. Make sure that the pants fit snugly over your boots. Along with the pants you need a pair of water proof gloves and a water proof jacket.

Now that the main part of your snowboarding gear is sorted it's time to think about the extras. A must have is sun block. As is a pair of UV sunglasses or goggles to protect your eyes. With safety in mind you'll also want a helmet for all the times you fall off your board. Of course you might want to listen to some tunes in which case you'll need an ipod.

By now you should have a good idea of what you require from your snowboarding clothes. The main things being water proofing and the ability to keep you warm. You also don't want to forget protective gear, helmet, wrist guards and kneepads. Especially if you're a novice. All that remains for me to say is see you on the slopes.
